In 2020 I was living in a university dorm in Quebec when COVID shut the world down. A hall monitor accused me of organizing a party. They asked me to leave. There were no flights home.
I started working at a local supermarket to survive. Then a local, someone who didn’t have to help at all, offered me a place to stay. What I still keep from that time is the kindness of strangers and a Canadian flag signed by everyone.
